Lieberman Was Never A Democrat?

Colin Powell’s endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a sign that he was never truly a Republican, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asserted on Sunday. 

“I don’t think you could really have ever been a Republican if you believe raising taxes and increasing spending at this time in our economy is a good idea,” Graham, one of Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s closest allies, said on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

Along with Senator Joe Lieberman, McCain has no closer butt-buddy than Lindsey Graham. Lieberman, infamously endorsed McCain early in the process and has since lent his vocal support to others on the Republican ticket.

If Powell was never a Republican, then surely Lieberman was never a Democrat.

Graham Addresses Convention

I was very happy to see Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina addressing the delegates at the Republican National Convention.

Fighting years of rumors that Senator Graham was gay, I thought it likely the convention managers would resist having Graham appear at the convention. With the many sex scandals of recent years, several among McCain's Republican senate colleagues, I thought it likely those with a questionable sexual history could be excluded.

Of course, sexual orientation should not be a disqualifier for most, but certainly a problem for the evangelical base of the Republican party.

It's likely McCain fought to have Graham included. Graham and McCain have been spending quite a bit of time together recently on the campaign trail. It appears that Graham travels with the nominee often when Mrs. McCain is unable to join McCain.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
