I was very happy to see Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
addressing the delegates at the Republican National Convention.
Fighting years of rumors that Senator Graham was gay, I thought it
likely the convention managers would resist having Graham appear at the
convention. With the many sex scandals of recent years, several among
McCain's Republican senate colleagues, I thought it likely those with a
questionable sexual history could be excluded.
Of course,
sexual orientation should not be a disqualifier for most, but certainly
a problem for the evangelical base of the Republican party.
It's
likely McCain fought to have Graham included. Graham and McCain have
been spending quite a bit of time together recently on the campaign
trail. It appears that Graham travels with the nominee often when Mrs.
McCain is unable to join McCain.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
