Michele Bachman: Still Crazy After All These Years

Right now I'm a Member of Congress. And I believe my job here is to be a foreign correspondent, reporting from enemy lines. And people need to understand, this isn't a game.

This isn't just a political talk show that's happening right now. This is our very freedom, and we have 230 years of a continuous link of freedom that every generation has ceded to the next generation.

This may be the time when that link breaks. And I'm going to do everything I can -- I know you are -- to make sure we keep that link secure. We cannot allow that link to break.

Further proof that this woman is insane.

First of all, it's obvious this woman has no idea what her role is as a member of congress. She thinks she's there to be a foreign correspondent? Are you kidding me? Oh course, these statements were made while being interviewed on Faux News. After squeaking by in the 2008 election, you think she would have learned her lesson and would stay quiet for a few months. She knows you can't raise your profile by being quiet and doing your job. My guess is, she's raising her crazy index in hopes of snagging the 2012 Republican nomination.

Cantor's Excuse

Brit-Brit's entrance here was preceded by a snarky video announcement by gossip maven Perez Hilton, after which Spears descended from the rafters in black vinyl dominatrix boots, a red ringmaster's jacket and not a whole lot else, a bejeweled whip in her hands. Lights flashed, smoke wafted across the stage -- actually, three circular stages set up in the center of the arena -- as dancers in bondage outfits and clown makeup twirled.

Upon being questioned about President Obama's press conference Tuesday night, Republican leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) made it known he hadn't watched. Why? Political blogs report that Cantor was too busy enjoying the sight of young girls in skimpy outfits at the Britney Spears concert.

Specter Would Lose GOP Primary

"A new Quinnipiac poll shows former Rep. Pat Toomey (R) crushing Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) in a Republican primary, 41% to 27% with 28% still undecided.

Overall Pennsylvania voters have a 45% to 31% favorable opinion of Sen. Specter, but he gets a 47% to 29% unfavorable score from Republicans.

Said pollster Clay Richards: 'Toomey came close last time and has strong conservative backing, but his challenge could be fractured if more Republicans crowd into the primary and split the anti-Specter vote. If Specter can get past the primary, the controversial veteran has a lot going for him in his bid for reelection, especially without a strong Democratic candidate on the horizon.'

Palin's office seeks to calm furor over stimulus funds rejection

Gov. Sarah Palins office on Saturday attempted to calm a growing furor in Alaska over Palins statement that she might not accept all the federal stimulus dollars intended for the state. Palins budget director said no decisions have been made, pending a debate. Meanwhile, anti-Palin demonstrators rallied in downtown Anchorage.

Virginia's Republican Rift

"VIRGINIA REPUBLICANS have seen better days. After a nearly uninterrupted string of electoral losses, Republican John C. Cook's recent election to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors might have built momentum for November's statewide elections. Instead, GOP leaders are mired in an intraparty power struggle. Predictably, Del. Jeffrey M. Frederick (Prince William), the party's polarizing state chairman, is at the center. Party leaders, including all five of Virginia's Republican congressmen, have taken the unusual step of calling on him to step down as chairman. The state GOP's affairs are its own business, but, if Republicans are committed to including pragmatists such as Mr. Cook under the party umbrella and not just socially conservative purists, Mr. Frederick isn't the right man for the job."

Northern Exposure

There's no reason to doubt Sarah Palin's sincerity when she talks about her commitment to family and--more specifically--special-needs kids. When she introduced her son, who has Down syndrome, to the audience at the Republican convention, the family tableau drew cheers. And she issued a promise. "To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message for you," she told the crowd. "For years, you've sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters, and I pledge to you that, if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House."

Unfortunately, as governor of a state with a birth-defect rate that's twice the national average, and which has the gloomy status as repository of toxic chemicals from around the world, Palin has pursued environmental policies that seem perfectly crafted to swell the ranks of special-needs kids. It's true that Alaska's top leaders have placed industry wishes over environmental protection for years. But, instead of correcting this problem, she's compounded it. Peer into her environmental record, and Palin ends up looking a lot like George W. Bush.
